Are you all ready for 2017? Are you set with your goals planned out? Or are you like many who could use a few pointers to get a good start this year?
Take the time to write out 2017 on a piece of paper. Then draw lines that connect 2017 to each of the major themes in your life such as Family/Friends, Health/Fitness, Career, and/or Finances. Once you determine those themes, you can choose the goal or set a direction for each of the areas. Then you will be able to connect the lines to each theme. This is called mind mapping and it is used in education and business but easily translates to pretty much any form of goal setting! One example could be making a health/fitness goal of working out 5 days a week. Another example might be that you drink eight, 8oz cups of water each day of the week. Remember to connect your goals to some change or something important to you. Need to rock that dress at a wedding in 2 months? There you go!
It has been said that repeating positive affirmations daily can change your mind and your life. Would you be willing to at least try a practice of thinking positive? Write out affirmations that coincide with your 2017 goals and commit to repeating them daily. Make these affirmations full, complete explanations of what you are going to accomplish. If your goal is to eat a healthier diet, the way your affirmation may read is: “I focus on learning new things about cooking and improving my healthy choices daily, and I commit to locating new recipes through researching cookbooks, health coach advice, and internet recipes each week.” By being specific and detailed with your affirmations, you will remain invested both mentally and physically.
Find yourself a calendar. Many banks and stores give away calendars with their logos or coupons, especially at the start of the new year. You can also find and download printable calendars online. There is also the calendar app on your smart phone or specific fitness tracking apps that can be extremely beneficial. Use one of these to track your daily goals. In fact, marking off days gives you increased satisfaction and motivation. The combination of goals with positive affirmations and tracking your success create a good start to the new year. Take control of the new year so the year does not control you.
