Butternut Squash Applesauce
Having owned my slow cooker for over 8 years, I’ve probably only used it 10 times (or less) and that’s such a shame! There are so many delicious fall recipes out there that I want to try.
I’d love to get in the habit of using my slow cooker more because it’s such a time saver – just set it and forget it! Wait, was that the slogan for the Showtime Rotisserie? hah. Either way, that’s what I love about using the slow cooker – you can turn it on in the morning, and by the time you get home at night, you have something delicious waiting for you!
Enter this awesome slow cooker butternut squash applesauce recipe! I might actually call this the perfect fall recipe! I really enjoyed the flavors this brought together. With the apples, butternut squash, and cinnamon, and my house smelled so good!
I had to try a bowlful straight out of the crockpot while it was still warm.. yum!
- 6 apples (see note below)
- 2 cups Butternut Squash, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp cinnamon
- 1 dash nutmeg
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 cup water (optional to get sauce to the desired constancy)
Peel and cut apples.
Peel and cube butternut squash.
Place apples and squash in slow cooker along with cinnamon, lemon juice, nutmeg, and sugar.
Let your mixture cook on Low for 6 hours OR High for 3-3.5 hours.
Puree your mixture to your desired consistency.
Note: Use any kind of apple. It’s best to mix flavors. I used 2 each – Golden Delicious, Gala, Honey Crisp
